History

New York City is the home of millions of immigrants who came to this great  Country from all over the World to fulfill their dreams in this land of opportunities.  Along with the immigrants came their cultures, Costumes, languages and traditions.  Today, here in New York City, more than 185 different languages are spoken and the cultures are represented in different manners such as community fairs, street activities and parades.

Almost every major community such as Irish, Italian, Puerto Rican, Labor and War Veterans, they all organize their own parades.  In the presence of all these parade, leaders from Muslim Community got together and planned to organize a United American Muslim Day Parade.  Among those leaders. A few to name are, Zakaullah Pirzada, Dr. Abdul Quddus, Dr. Mehdi, Mohammad Munim, Imam Bakiruddin, Dr. R.U.Jafar, Dr. Shafi Bezar, Shamsher Ali Baig, Albert Shamsiddeen, Ainul Haque.

So with the efforts and hard work of our founding members, the first United American Muslim Day Parade  was started in 1985.  The purpose of this parade was to provide American Muslims  a platform to be united and be part of the political process of this country so that our voice could be heard in the main political arena of USA.  It also offered the opportunities to understand their civic duties, register to vote and have civic engagements with other communities.

We did achieve success in recognition of Eid holidays in NYC school system, suspension of alternate Parking rules on Muslim holidays, encouraged Muslims to register to vote and participate in the political process of this country.  We still have a long way to go with you help and support.  We are a not-for-profit organization under IRS rule of 501(c)3.   Please join us to promote this noble cause.
